Obituary of Joy Genevieve "Sievers" Hodgson

Joy Hodgson of Lodi, California, passed away on February 9, 2011. Joy, a native Californian was born in Woodland, the eldest of five children to Peter Frederick and Mary Ann Sievers on November 11, 1920. In 1941 she graduated from and did her graduate work in education at the San Jose State University. Joy began her career teaching school in Warm Springs and San Leandro-Hayward areas as well as the Grant and Clements Schools in San Joaquin County where she also taught and served as principal at Leroy Nichols in Lodi. Joy was active in multiple professional associations and non profit organizations. She also had a love for music and directed the Vintage Singers. Joy established the Glass House, of which many stained glass pieces may be found in homes today. Being very proud of her family, her husband,Ham, of 66 years preceeded her in death. Joy is survived by three sons, John Hamilton,Fred William,and Michael George along with six grandchildren. A remembrance celebration will be held on Saturday February 26, at 10 am at the First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Oak St. in Lodi, CA (368-5357. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church mentioned above, Lodi Memorial Hospital Foundation, Inc. 999 South Fairmont Ave., Ste. 105 in Lodi, 95240 or the charity of the donor's choice.
