Obituary of Dorothy L Scott-Raley

Dorothy Scott Raley, after a brief final illness and surrounded by family, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2011 at the Hospice House of San Joaquin in Stockton, California. She was born on August 5, 1920 near Effingham, Kansas to parents Guy and Vera (Wilson) Cooper. Raised to adulthood in Kansas, she moved to southern California after high school and on February 1, 1941 married Fred Scott, whom she had known from childhood in Effingham. In 1945, Fred with Dorothy and their young family, moved from Los Angeles to Stockton where they spent the remainder of their lives. Dorothy enjoyed trailer outings, square dancing, bowling and caring for young children, which she did as a day care provider in her home for forty-two years. Fred Scott died in 1994 and a few years later Dorothy married Jim Raley, a widower she had known for many years from trailer outings and square dancing. Dorothy and Jim enjoyed their time together, continuing to participate in trailer club activities and square dancing until she was unable to do so any longer. In addition to her husband Jim, Dorothy is survived by children Robert, Sandra, Linda Bartosik, Marsha Branson, Fred, David and Doug. Twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. A twin brother, Donald, brother Howard, sister Alice Taliaferro, half-sisters Velma Stutz and Lola Juencke preceded Dorothy in death, along with a son Larry who died in 1994. A memorial service is planned for 10:00 am Thursday, December 1st at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 2544 Plymouth Road, Stockton (enter from Country Club Boulevard). A private interment will be held at a later date in the Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin or the Children's Home of Stockton.
