It was my personal privilege and pleasure to work for Mr. K during the second 11 years of his leadership at the Port. He was ethical, intelligent, principled and candid. My memories of him will always be with kindness, admiration, appreciation and respect.</p>

The cities of Sacramento and Stockton have long been competitors. This was true of its ports as well. Lex became Director at Stockton during my tenure as Director at Sacramento. I found him to be a worthy competitor and a vehement supporter of Stockton. He will be missed by the maritime industry, which he served so well.

Lex was a friend of my late father, Ron Coale, who served on the port commission for some 20 years. I had the pleasure of meeting Lex and Kyoko at several functions that my father hosted over the years. My father had such a great respect and admiration for Lex . He was my father's friend and he made sure I knew it. I also, in the few interactions with Lex, grew to admire him and enjoyed the stories he told of his youth and the journey he had before arriving at the port of Stockton. I'm sure my father and Lex have met again. Lex will be missed by everyone that knew him.

Lex was a friend of mine who I met through a safe boating organization, The United States Power Squadron and its local chapter, San Joaquin Delta Power Squadron. He was a very knowledgeable and experienced mariner who was only too happy to help out his fellow boaters. He held many offices with the SJDPS, most noteworthy was Island Chairman; bringing many improvements and benefits for the members. I enjoyed listening to his stories and tales of his adventures on the sea. I respected him a great deal and will miss his stubborn point of view at times, as well as his hardy laugh and genuine smile. John L. Paval AP

Lex was a really great man to work for and I'm glad I got the opportunity to tell him that. He led by example, was good to his employees, and allowed them to grow. He was also generous with his sage advice and captivated us all with his many stories -- stories that I could have listened to over and over again. I will also miss his "We can do dat" attitude. Sincere condolences to Kyoko, Akemi and Efren, and Hideki.
